Early Voting Turnout Reaches 17.51% as of 5 p.m.... Jeonnam Surpasses 30%
As of 5:00 p.m. on May 29, the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, the nationwide average voter turnout stood at 17.51%. This marks the highest turnout recorded at this time among all early voting periods in history.
On this day, the National Election Commission announced that, as of 5:00 p.m., 7,771,218 out of 44,391,871 eligible voters nationwide had participated in early voting.

View original imageThe nationwide average early voting rate is 17.51%. Since the early voting system was first introduced in nationwide elections during the June 4, 2014 local elections, this is the highest turnout at this time for any nationwide election, excluding by-elections and re-elections.
So far, Jeonnam has recorded the highest turnout at 32.02%, followed by Jeonbuk at 29.64% and Gwangju at 28.89%. Seoul and Gyeonggi reported 17.04% and 16.19%, respectively. Daegu recorded the lowest turnout at 11.95%.

Early voting will take place over two days, from May 29 to May 30. Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Voters must bring a valid ID and visit an early voting station in order to participate.
