On May 29, the Gwangju Police Agency announced that it had referred four individuals, including a person identified as A, and three corporations to the prosecution on charges of illegally using government subsidies (in violation of the Subsidy Management Act, among others).
They are suspected of having used part of the subsidies for purposes other than those intended while participating in a research project of a university project group based in Gwangju, which was supported by the Ministry of Education. The total project budget for the research is reported to be approximately 2.6 billion won.
The police also investigated whether a university professor who oversaw the project group was involved, but stated that no criminal suspicions were found.
