People Power Party to Verify Source of Gambling Funds of Lee Jae Myung's Eldest Son
"Request for National Tax Service Tax Crime Investigation
and Initiation of Criminal Proceedings"
The People Power Party announced on May 29 that it would investigate allegations of illegal gambling and tax evasion involving the eldest son of Lee Jae Myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, and begin criminal proceedings.
Jang Youngha, head of the Truth Response Strategy Team of the People Power Party's Central Election Countermeasures Committee, held a press conference at the National Assembly that day and raised suspicions that Lee Jae Myung's eldest son had deposited billions of won into illegal gambling websites.

The People Power Party plans to formally request the National Tax Service to investigate tax crimes, conduct a thorough analysis of the flow of assets of Lee's son and the entire family, and verify whether tax evasion occurred. The party also decided to initiate criminal proceedings on charges including violation of the Act on Regulation and Punishment of Criminal Proceeds Concealment, violation of the Punishment of Tax Offenses Act, and dissemination of false information under the Public Official Election Act.
