Throughout this year, these students will carry out a variety of volunteer activities on campus, in the local community, nationwide, and abroad, including social contribution, UN peace and veterans affairs, and SDGs-related initiatives.
The volunteer group plans to start with a local mural painting project at the end of this month, followed by activities such as home repairs to improve neighbors' living conditions, a 6·25 Korean War veterans commemoration event, the Youth Hope Ladder PKNU Guardian program to support protected and at-risk youth, support for local study rooms, education for North Korean defector youth, kimchi sharing, a used clothing recycling campaign, and special domestic and international volunteer activities during school breaks.
Building on last year's dozens of volunteer activities, including 28 group volunteer sessions and 52 team volunteer sessions, the group plans to further expand tailored volunteer activities this year. This includes operating local study rooms in cooperation with the Korea Technology Finance Corporation to support educational donations in the community, as well as collaborating with various local governments, community organizations, welfare foundations, and volunteer centers.
This year, the original plan was to recruit 70 volunteer members, but due to a high application rate with over 120 applicants, the group increased its capacity by 10 and, after a selection process, ultimately chose 80 students.
Among the various programs offered at the university, the PKNU Student Volunteer Group has become increasingly popular among students due to the opportunity it provides for diverse activities and experiences.
Kim Cheolsoo, Dean of Student Affairs, said, "I hope our students will grow into wonderful young people who respect the values of sharing and communication by contributing to the local community and experiencing life together with society."
