Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, met with former President Moon Jaein for the first time since officially entering the presidential race.
According to the Democratic Party on the 23rd, Lee had a luncheon meeting with former President Moon and his wife on this day. The luncheon was also attended by Kwon Yangsook, the wife of the late former President Roh Moohyun, their son Dr. Roh Gunho, former Prime Minister Lee Haechan and his wife, National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonsik and his wife, writer Yoo Simin, Democratic Party chief spokesperson Cho Seungrae, and former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyungsoo.
This was the first meeting since Lee was nominated as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. Previously, on January 30, Lee had paid a New Year's courtesy visit to former President Moon at Pyeongsan Village in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province.
Before the luncheon with former President Moon, Lee visited Bongha Village to pay his respects at the grave of the late former President Roh Moohyun. In a post on his Facebook page, Lee said, "A special lecture by human rights lawyer Roh Moohyun shed light on the direction of my life," and added, "After becoming president, his bold political reforms, which no one else dared to pursue, became another turning point in my life," paying tribute to former President Roh.
He continued, "I will continue the journey toward the 'world where people live' that President Roh Moohyun dreamed of?achieving balanced regional development, building a society where fair opportunities are guaranteed, a society without privilege or foul play, and a 'true Republic of Korea' where the people are the true owners," and declared, "I will create a great society where everyone prospers together."

Meanwhile, earlier that morning, Lee Junseok, the presidential candidate of the Reform Party, also visited Bongha Village to pay his respects at the grave of former President Roh Moohyun. Kim Moonsu, the People Power Party presidential candidate, and Kwon Youngguk, the Democratic Labor Party presidential candidate, were unable to visit Bongha Village due to scheduling conflicts.
