Mayor Lee emphasized, "The recent appellate court ruling is a regrettable outcome that ignores the suffering and expectations of our citizens. We must marshal all our resources not only to secure compensation but also to restore the pride of Pohang citizens and achieve justice."
He added, "To ensure that not a single citizen suffers unfairly, we must work together not only with the legal community but also with experts in geology and seismology to gather evidence and devise practical response measures to protect citizens' rights."
Attorney A, who attended the meeting, stated, "I will do my utmost, together with the citizens, to ensure that the Supreme Court corrects the ruling in the appeal."
Attorney B added, "Local lawyers will collaborate closely to ensure that the citizens' earnest wishes are fully conveyed to the court and to seek effective response strategies."
Previously, on May 13, the appellate court ruled against the plaintiffs, overturning the first-instance decision. In response, the joint litigation group immediately decided to file an appeal with the Supreme Court. Pohang City is now strengthening its cooperation with local legal experts to protect citizens' rights.
Pohang City plans to continue its multifaceted efforts to support citizens and respond to the Supreme Court appeal by operating an earthquake lawsuit information center, holding strategy meetings with related organizations and groups, submitting policy proposals to relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and maintaining close cooperation with local legal experts.
