Busanjin-Hae Economic Free Zone Authority: "ESG Management for SMEs Is an Essential Survival Strategy"
The Busanjin-Hae Economic Free Zone Authority has taken steps to support the enhancement of ESG management among small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Busanjin-Hae Economic Free Zone Authority, led by Commissioner Park Seongho, announced on the 22nd that it held a meeting on the 21st with five companies participating in the "2025 ESG Management Support Project" to assess the current status of ESG practices and explore actionable strategies.
This meeting targeted executives of small and medium-sized enterprises preparing for ESG management, and was divided into two parts: a communication session in the first half and a professional consulting session in the second half.
During the communication session, participants discussed the challenges in implementing ESG, the necessity of practical action, expectations and concerns about certification systems, and ongoing support measures from the Free Zone Authority. There was broad consensus among attendees that "ESG management is not a choice for SMEs, but a survival strategy."
In the professional consulting session held in the latter part, practical case studies were presented, including an overview of ESG concepts, domestic and international policy trends, identifying stakeholder demands, and establishing data-driven performance management systems. Detailed strategies for each ESG evaluation criterion were also shared, such as electricity and water usage, pollutant emissions, raw material consumption, labor standards, and supply chain risk management.
A representative from one participating company commented, "It was helpful to receive concrete directions for practicing ESG management," and added, "I gained many insights from the cases of leading companies."
