On May 22, Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced that roses in the city, such as Seocheon Flower Road and Rose Park in Jungmadong, are lighting up fragrant flower lanterns, captivating the footsteps of passersby.
As May, the queen of seasons, enters its latter half, tens of millions of roses are in full bloom throughout Gwangyang, the city of flowers, filling the hearts of citizens and tourists with excitement.

View original imageAt the Rose Park along the Seocheon River, which originates from Baegunsan Mountain and spans 13,000 square meters, 22,000 rose bushes of 56 varieties are creating a spectacular scene with their colorful and splendid beauty, filling the air with their fragrance. In particular, the Seocheon Musical Fountain, known for its beautiful melodies and vibrant colors, cools the midday heat with its refreshing water streams and adds romance to the night, offering comfort to visitors weary from daily life.
The Seocheon Musical Fountain operates five times a day, for 20 minutes each session, at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m., and 8:30 p.m., except on Mondays. Water screen events for celebrations, proposals, and other heartfelt messages are also offered free of charge here.
Rose Park in Jungmadong, beloved by citizens as a serene and well-maintained urban garden, becomes crowded with photographers in May, all eager to capture the beauty of the roses in bloom.
This 4,000-square-meter park features tens of millions of roses from 21 varieties, including 'Queen of Rose', densely filling the themed gardens and forming fences and tunnels that inspire awe in visitors. In addition, the adjacent Gwangyang Jungma Library allows citizens to borrow books and enjoy reading on benches scattered throughout the flower garden, adding a touch of emotion to the scenery and offering a moment of relaxation amid their busy daily lives.
