The county is pursuing the establishment of a history museum to secure regional identity and create a space where visitors can view historical and cultural resources at a glance. Through exhibitions, the museum aims to promote the historical value and culture of the region.
At the promotional center, local residents and tourists are informed about the necessity of building the history museum, and the main contents of the previewed museum are also shared. The main contents of the history museum are exhibited under three themes: the Seomjingang River of Gokseong, Buddhist cultural heritage, and local legends.
In the "Seomjingang River of Gokseong" section, visitors can view artifacts excavated around the Seomjingang River and photographs depicting its historical and natural culture. In the "Buddhist Cultural Heritage of Gokseong" section, traditional temples and Buddhist cultural heritage designated as national treasures are introduced through maps. The historical value of the Jeokin Seonsa Pagoda, which was elevated to National Treasure status this year, is highlighted, and visitors can participate in an interactive activity by assembling some of its images as a puzzle.
In the "Legends of Gokseong" section, visitors can learn about the legend of General Macheonmok, a renowned Joseon military commander, as well as the Won Hongjang legend related to the founding of Gwaneumsa Temple. In addition, they can view the "Macheonmok Jwamyung Gongsin Nokgwon" (reprinted edition) and the "Okgwahyeonseong Deoksan Gwaneumsasa Jeok" (copied edition) in person.
Governor Cho Sangrae emphasized, "The construction of the Gokseong History Museum is a project that requires not only passing the preliminary evaluation by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism but also the active participation and support of county residents." He added, "We will do our utmost to build the history museum in order to preserve the region's identity."
