View original imageFormer Daejeon Mayors Yeom Hongchul and Kwon Seontaek have joined the Democratic Party's presidential election campaign committee.
Yeom Hongchul was appointed as Co-Chair of the Election Committee, while Kwon Seontaek was named Chair of the Government Innovation and System Improvement Committee. Both held a press conference at the Democratic Party's Daejeon City Party office on the afternoon of May 16.
Park Junghyun, City Party Chair, stated, "Former Mayor Yeom led the advancement of the Daedeok Special District and laid the foundation for Daejeon as a science city. Former Mayor Kwon became an icon of communicative governance, driving real changes in citizens' lives, such as promoting Subway Line 2. Together with former Mayor Heo Taejung, let's unite the strength of these three leaders to achieve a sweeping victory in Daejeon and ignite a wave of change."
Yeom Hongchul, Co-Chair of the Election Committee, said, "December 3, 2024, was a day when the Republic of Korea faced a crisis in which basic rights were nearly threatened by the worst political happening." He explained his support by adding, "Candidate Lee Jaemyung, who began as a young factory worker, has accumulated extensive administrative experience as Mayor of Seongnam, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, and as a member of the National Assembly."
Kwon Seontaek, Chair of the Government Innovation and System Improvement Committee, said, "Strong leadership is needed to overcome the national crisis, and Candidate Lee Jaemyung is the most suitable person for the job." He added, "He is a candidate who can revive the people's economy through a pragmatic and centrist approach."
Heo Taejung, Co-Chair of the Election Committee, expressed his gratitude for the participation of former mayors Yeom Hongchul and Kwon Seontaek in the campaign committee, emphasizing, "We must strengthen the political influence of the Chungcheong region by achieving an overwhelming victory centered around Candidate Lee Jaemyung."
