Seodaemun-gu Renovates 2km of Baekryeonsan Ridge Trail into "Barefoot Trail"
Seodaemun-gu in Seoul has recently renovated approximately 2 kilometers of the Baekryeonsan ridge hiking trail (in the area of San 11-123, Hong Eun-dong) into a "barefoot trail," allowing citizens to walk safely and comfortably in nature.

In steep sections, old wooden stairs and palm mats had been left unattended, damaging the landscape. As hikers avoided these obstacles by taking side paths, this led to environmental degradation.
The district focused on safety, eco-friendliness, and accessibility, and after about five months of work, created the "Baekryeonsan Barefoot Trail." The width of the trail was expanded, protruding rocks and exposed tree roots were removed, and the slopes were eased so that people of all ages could walk comfortably. To enhance the appeal of a "nature-healing walk," where people can feel the earth beneath their feet, artificial structures were minimized and the natural terrain was preserved as much as possible.
In addition, pavilions, sunbeds, benches, and exercise equipment were installed along the trail. More than 100 tall trees, approximately 12,000 small flowering shrubs, and over 3,200 herbaceous plants were planted. Although the trail is named the "Barefoot Trail," walking with shoes is also allowed.
The district emphasized that this project goes beyond simply improving the hiking trail, stating that it is part of creating a "premium healing city for citizens' healthy leisure and a nature-friendly lifestyle."
Seodaemun-gu Mayor Lee Seongheon said, "The Baekryeonsan Barefoot Trail is a special place where people can experience nature and heal within the city," adding, "We will continue to expand eco-friendly walking trails that many people can enjoy."
