71st Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival Opens in Gapyeong on May 15... Over 11,000 Participants Compete in 27 Sports
The 71st Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival will open on May 15 at Jaraseom Jungdo in Gapyeong County and continue until May 17.
Under the slogan "Healing More Gapyeong, Opportunities More Gyeonggi," a total of 11,583 participants from 31 cities and counties in the province?including 8,170 athletes and 3,413 officials?will take part in this event.
Taking into account national tournaments and other factors, 11 sports, including soft tennis, weightlifting, and shooting, will be held as preliminary events, while 16 sports, such as soccer and tennis, will take place during the main festival. In total, competitions will be held in 27 sports. Based on population size, the top 15 cities and counties will compete in Division 1, while the remaining 16 will compete in Division 2.
Notably, this year’s festival will officially include baseball as a regular sport, after it was operated as a demonstration event for the past three years. Fourteen cities and counties will participate in Division 1, and eleven in Division 2.

Meanwhile, as part of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, the festival will purchase renewable energy through a green premium system, using renewable electricity for public facilities at events and operations within Gapyeong County. In addition, reusable containers will be used during the opening and closing ceremonies, and shuttle buses at the opening ceremony venue will operate as electric vehicles, making the festival environmentally friendly.
