Gwangju Dong-gu and Yesul Yakbang Launch Cultural Arts Healing Program
On May 13, Dong-gu District in Gwangju announced that it will operate a cultural arts healing program called "Spring-like Mind Healing" in collaboration with Yesul Yakbang, targeting 15 individuals identified as high-risk for depression.
"Spring-like Mind Healing," held every Tuesday until October, is an art and music therapy program designed to help participants with psychological trauma overcome emotional difficulties through art, alleviate social isolation through collaborative activities, and restore self-esteem. The program will be held a total of 20 times at Pureunmaeul Community Center, every Tuesday until the end of October.
The main components of the program include: ▲Art (drawing sensory maps, expressing emotions through color, creating works using nature) ▲Music (improvisational instrument performance and recording, music appreciation) ▲Appreciation and Exhibition (visiting exhibitions at the National Asia Culture Center, exhibiting participants' own works), among others.
Participants will have opportunities to express their emotions and thoughts through sensory experiences, and will share their own creations through exhibitions, thereby enhancing their sense of accomplishment.
Im Taek, head of the district office, said, "I hope this mental health program will provide participants who have experienced depression with an opportunity to care for their own minds," adding, "We will continue to make efforts to boost residents' self-esteem and encourage social interaction through various programs, so as to help alleviate feelings of isolation."
