Jongno District to Hold Hyoje-dong Redevelopment Briefing Session on May 13
Full-scale Promotion of Urban Residential Complex Development
Request for Seoul City Approval in August
Jongno District in Seoul will hold a resident briefing session at 5:00 p.m. on May 13 at the Jongno 5·6-ga-dong Community Center to discuss the designation of an urban redevelopment zone in the area around 292-2 Hyoje-dong.
This briefing session has been organized to gather a wide range of resident opinions on the "Hyoje 1·2·3 Urban Redevelopment Project Zone Designation and Redevelopment Plan (Draft)" and to develop a customized plan tailored to the unique characteristics and conditions of the area.
The Hyoje-dong area is a key location where urban industries such as the Jongno Flower Market and the pharmacy street are concentrated, and it serves as a central hub connecting Heunginjimun, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), and Daehak-ro. The district plans to proceed with development by dividing the area into three zones: Hyoje 1 Zone, centered around public land such as Hyoje Elementary School and designated for preservation; Hyoje 2 Zone, focused on strengthening mixed-use business functions and residential supply along Jongno-daero; and Hyoje 3 Zone, aimed at preserving historical landscapes such as Hanyangdoseong.
The plan emphasizes strengthening urban competitiveness and promoting walkability through the creation of open green spaces and pedestrian networks, specialized streetscapes, and the establishment of a circulation system including open spaces, public areas, and plazas. The public review period runs until June 9, during which anyone can access the materials on the district office's website. Jongno District plans to submit a request to the Seoul Metropolitan Government for the designation of the redevelopment zone and approval of the redevelopment plan in August, reflecting both resident and district council feedback.
