Turning Jung-gu, Seoul into a Local Sensibility Travel Destination...
Selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Tourism Special Zone Revitalization Project
Jung-gu Tourism Series to Be Produced in Nine Episodes and Multiple Languages
Jung-gu District in Seoul has been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's '2025 Tourism Special Zone Revitalization Support Project,' securing 79 million won in national funding.
The district announced that, through this selection, it will encourage tourists visiting Myeongdong to explore all areas of Jung-gu and experience a 'Dailycation.' A portmanteau of 'Daily' and 'Vacation,' Dailycation refers to a new travel culture that goes beyond consumption-focused tourism centered on famous attractions, instead immersing visitors in the unique atmosphere and everyday life of local areas?a travel style focused on 'local sensibility.'
Since September of last year, the district has been running the 'Jung-gu Tourism at Your Fingertips' project to discover local content that captures the stories and emotions of the area.
With this project selection, Jung-gu plans to produce local content from nine regions in multiple languages (English, Chinese, and Japanese) to enhance accessibility for foreign tourists and to establish the entire district as a 'local sensibility travel destination.'
From last year through early this year, the district introduced local content from five areas:
During the first half of this year, the district plans to complete the nine-episode 'Jung-gu Tourism at Your Fingertips' series by adding stories from four more areas: Sogong-dong, Jangchung-dong, Gwanghui-dong, and Hoehyeon-dong.
These contents will introduce recommended courses that tell the stories of each area's history and culture, as well as music playlists that capture the local atmosphere and videos that are ideal to watch before traveling.
Based on these local contents, the district plans to widely promote them through familiarization tours, experiential programs, and social networking service (SNS) influencer marketing, with the goal of establishing Jung-gu as a 'mecca of localism tourism.'
