Trump Pressures Russia After Completing 'Minerals Agreement'... Urges 30-Day Ceasefire
Donald Trump, President of the United States, who has completed negotiations on the 'Minerals Agreement,' called for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine on May 8 (local time).
On this day, President Trump stated on his social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, "Negotiations with Russia and Ukraine are ongoing. The United States ideally calls for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire."
He added, "If the ceasefire is not observed, the United States and its allies will impose additional sanctions," and continued, "As president, I will work together with European countries to secure peace between Russia and Ukraine." He also said, "This ceasefire must ultimately lead to a peace agreement," and added, "All of this can be achieved very quickly, and if my assistance is needed, please let me know at any time."
Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, also revealed that he had a phone call with President Trump and pressed for a ceasefire. On SNS X (formerly Twitter) that day, he stated, "President Trump wants this war to end, is ready to provide assistance, and confirmed his support for the need for a ceasefire." He added that both sides agreed to further contact. He also said, "Ukraine is ready to enter into a 30-day ceasefire starting today," but urged, "For this to happen, Russia must demonstrate a willingness to end the war, and this must begin with a complete and unconditional ceasefire."
