Samcheok City to Hold "Van Gogh Replica Exhibition" Starting June 10
Free Admission Until July 13
in Celebration of the Gangwon Citizens’ Sports Festival
On May 7, Samcheok City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Park Sangsoo) announced that it will hold the special exhibition "Immortal Painter Van Gogh Replica Exhibition" at Exhibition Halls 1 to 3 of the Samcheok Culture and Arts Center for 34 days, from June 10 to July 13. This exhibition has been organized to commemorate the 60th Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Citizens' Sports Festival and the 18th Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Disabled Sports Festival.
This exhibition will showcase approximately 70 replica works by Vincent van Gogh, the Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is regarded as one of the greatest artists in Western art history and who had a profound influence on 20th-century art.
The exhibition is structured into five sections that chronicle the life of Vincent van Gogh: his early years as a painter of peasants, his training period in Paris, his time living in southern France, his stay at the asylum in Saint-Remy, and his life in the village of Auvers-sur-Oise.
A variety of hands-on programs will be available for visitors to participate in, including making Van Gogh's room stickers, experiencing oil painting by touch, coloring Van Gogh's works, and trying out a magic cube activity.
Additionally, docent-led on-site explanations and audio guides available via smartphone app will be provided to enhance the appreciation of the artworks.
