Jeongeup City Recruiting Farmers for 'Low-Carbon Agricultural Product Certification Support'
Until May 28...
Boosting Production and Consumption of Agricultural Products Expected
Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province is recruiting farmers to participate in the '2025 Second Half Certification Support Project' until May 28, in order to expand the production of low-carbon agricultural products.
According to the city on April 30, low-carbon agricultural product certification is a national certification system with even stricter standards than those for eco-friendly or Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certified products.
This certification is granted to agricultural products that emit less greenhouse gases during production compared to the average for each category. The eligible items include a total of 65 categories, such as food crops, vegetables, fruits, and special-purpose crops.
Agricultural management entities participating in the support project will receive assistance throughout the entire certification process from the Korea Institute of Agricultural Technology Promotion. All certification fees and inspection costs are also fully covered.
Currently, low-carbon certified agricultural products are being sold at large supermarkets, department stores, and eco-friendly specialty stores. As consumer demand increases due to the differentiation of agricultural brands and the spread of environmental protection movements, the number of farmers hoping to obtain certification is also on the rise.
This second half of the year, selected farms will receive professional consulting and inspection support starting in July. Farms that pass the final review will be able to receive their low-carbon agricultural product certificates by December.
An official from the city stated, "In this era of climate crisis, voluntary efforts by the agricultural sector to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are more important than ever," and added, "We hope that active participation from farmers will further promote the production and consumption of low-carbon agricultural products."
