SKT Hacking Risk... BC Card Urgently Launches Security Authentication Service 'TrustOne'
IC Chip-Embedded Credit Card
Smartphone Tap Authentication
On April 29, BC Card announced the emergency launch of its next-generation security authentication service, 'TrustOne', in response to the recent SK Telecom USIM hacking incident.
The service was developed last year through collaboration between BC Card, Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute, and others. It is a next-generation security authentication service that requires users to physically tap a real credit or debit card equipped with an IC chip to their own smartphone for authentication.
Because credit and debit cards (including check cards) and smartphones are physically separated, the service offers significantly enhanced security compared to existing simple authentication methods. It can be used as an additional authentication method in various sectors, including banks, card companies, telecommunications companies, virtual asset exchanges, and online shopping malls.
Amid recent incidents such as smartphone USIM hacking, BC Card accelerated the introduction of this service, which it had been discussing with a major domestic commercial bank, to further strengthen the protection of customers' financial transactions.
As the Financial Supervisory Service has also recommended that financial institutions consider implementing additional authentication methods in response to the incident, BC Card plans to expand the service to 45 client companies, including major commercial banks, as well as to various other financial institutions, to help strengthen customer security.
