A 'Smart' Joint Logistics Center to Be Built at Busan Port
Supplying a 31,000-square-meter logistics center
Enhancing logistics competitiveness
Busan Port Authority (BPA) will begin construction of the Smart Joint Logistics Center at Busan New Port on April 30. Completion is scheduled for October 2027.
This project is being promoted through a joint investment of 88.7 billion KRW by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Busan Port Authority. The logistics center will have a total floor area of approximately 31,000 square meters and will be built as a three-story structure. Additionally, a yard of about 35,000 square meters will be constructed.
The center will incorporate Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence (AI) to automate cargo in-and-out and storage processes, and to establish a real-time inventory management system. The goal is also to obtain certification as a Smart Logistics Center (grades 1 to 3) from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The cargo in-and-out time is expected to decrease from the current 60 minutes to 15 minutes, and worker productivity is projected to increase by more than 10%. Logistics costs are also expected to be reduced by about 20%.
Operation will be handled by Cools Smart Fulfillment Co., a logistics and ICT company based in Busan. The company will provide comprehensive logistics services including delivery, storage, packaging, and inventory management. More than half of the cargo handled will be from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), supporting SME exporters and importers, forwarders, and startups so that they can easily access large-scale logistics infrastructure.
