Establishing a Collaboration System to Strengthen Defense Capabilities Based on Photonics Technology
The Korea Photonics Technology Institute and the Navy Future Innovation Research Group have signed a memorandum of understanding for civil-military technology cooperation. Aiming to strengthen maritime defense capabilities by integrating advanced science and technology, the two organizations will engage in practical collaboration, including joint research and the exchange of technical information.
On April 29, the two institutions agreed to cooperate in areas such as joint research related to the maritime defense industry, sharing of technical data, planning of collaborative projects, and exchange of professional personnel. Their policy is to apply foundational technologies from the private sector, such as photonics technology, to the defense sector, while also establishing a cooperative framework to enhance future naval capabilities.
Shin Yongjin, President of the Korea Photonics Technology Institute, stated, "We will contribute to strengthening the Navy's technological capabilities with core foundational technologies, including photonics technology," adding, "We aim to create a technology ecosystem where the private sector and the military can grow together."
Song Sangrae, Head of the Navy Future Innovation Research Group, said, "Cooperation with outstanding private-sector technologies is crucial for building naval power suited to the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution," and expressed hope that "this agreement will lead to tangible results."
With this agreement as a starting point, the two organizations plan to expand the scope of their cooperation and work together to enhance technological capabilities in the maritime defense industry and establish collaborative models.
