Mirae Asset Venture Investment Establishes 122 Billion KRW "Mirae Asset AI Frontier Investment Association" Fund
Mirae Asset Venture Investment announced on April 29 that it has established the "Mirae Asset AI Frontier Investment Association" fund with a total size of 122 billion KRW.
The "Mirae Asset AI Frontier Investment Association" fund was launched in July last year when Korea Development Bank selected Mirae Asset Venture Investment as the management company for its "AI-dedicated investment fund" aimed at fostering the AI ecosystem, contributing 30 billion KRW to kick off the fundraising. Subsequently, Mirae Asset Securities, Industrial Bank of Korea, Military Mutual Aid Association, Police Mutual Aid Association, IBK Capital, and Korea Ginseng Corporation joined as limited partners, resulting in the formation of a fund totaling 122 billion KRW.
Mirae Asset Venture Investment plans to focus investments from this fund on the AI value chain, including AI infrastructure, AI models, and AI application services. In the field of AI infrastructure, the company intends to invest in AI semiconductors, memory, and servers/data centers. For AI models, it will target foundation models and data-related companies. In the AI application services sector, the company plans to invest in businesses related to robotics/mobility, bio/healthcare, and manufacturing/smart factories.
Mirae Asset Venture Investment has already invested more than 250 billion KRW in companies within the AI value chain through its existing funds and holds a strong portfolio in the AI sector. Among its major AI infrastructure investments are "Rebellions" and "HyperAccel," both NPU companies developing AI inference accelerator chips for data centers. The company is also investing in "Exina," which develops CXL (Compute Express Link)-based intelligent memory solutions, emerging as the next-generation standard for data centers. Additionally, Mirae Asset Venture Investment has invested in "Semifive," a platform provider that enables efficient and rapid chip design and production.
In the AI model sector, the company has invested in "Cohere," which is considered a competitor to OpenAI for developing conversational AI models similar to ChatGPT and has received investment from Google. It has also invested in "BRIA," an Israeli company specializing in foundation models for image generation AI solutions, as well as "Upstage," a domestic company recognized for having the most competitive LLM technology in Korea.
Among key investments in core AI industry applications are "Moloco," an AI-based adtech company, and "Mathpresso," which provides "MathGPT," a language model specialized in the mathematics domain.
