Busan Metropolitan City is launching a training program to nurture newcomers into practical trade experts.
On April 29, Busan City announced that it is now recruiting trainees for the 4th Busan Trade Rookie program, designed to strengthen the practical trade capabilities of local youth.
In partnership with the Busan Economic Promotion Agency and the Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea International Trade Association, the city will run a seven-month program from June to December. The program will target a total of 55 unemployed local youth and university students, offering trade education, field experience, and job placement support.
The Busan Trade Rookie program is a flagship local youth trade talent development initiative that provides practical trade education, industry field trips, and corporate job placement support. This year marks its fourth edition.
Over the past three years, the program has produced a total of 144 Trade Rookies, with 98 of them securing employment at trade and logistics companies or export-related organizations, achieving an average employment rate of 73%.
The employment rate within the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (BuuL-Gyeong) region was the highest at 59%, and the career paths of trainees are expanding to Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and even overseas.
Kim, a 27-year-old graduate from last year’s program, said, “Thanks to my diligent participation in the program, I gained confidence in trade practices and, as a result, secured a position at the local mid-sized company DRB Dongil.”
This 4th edition features a step-by-step tailored curriculum, including: ▲ Trade Practice Education (June, online), ▲ Mock Export Consultation and Overseas Marketing Competition (July, Busan Trade Center), ▲ Industrial Field Trips to Gumi and Pohang (July-August), and ▲ Job Fair and Consulting (August-December).
Eligible applicants are unemployed youth residing in Busan and university students in their third or fourth year. Applicants can download and submit the application form via the Korea International Trade Association Trade Academy website by May 18.
The 55 trainees selected will receive up to 100,000 won to cover trade qualification exam fees and language test costs. English speaking test preparation and customized job counseling will also be provided.
After passing the document screening and interview, trainees must pay a tuition fee of 250,000 won to be officially enrolled. Those who maintain an attendance rate of 90% or higher and obtain the Level 1 International Trade Specialist certification will also receive a Korea Trade Academy certificate of completion.
The top 18 trainees will be given the special opportunity to participate in overseas exhibitions with local companies, offering a chance to experience the global trade scene firsthand.
The pre-orientation for the 4th Busan Trade Rookie program will be broadcast live on YouTube at 2 p.m. on May 9.
