Times Square, located in the heart of Manhattan, New York, is a landmark with a daily floating population of around 300,000 people. The LG Guggenheim Award is the flagship program of the 'LG Guggenheim Art & Tech Partnership' established between LG and the Guggenheim Museum. LG and the Guggenheim Museum present prize money and a trophy to recipients who have driven innovation in the creative field using technology.
This year's LG Guggenheim Award was given to Ahyoung Kim, a contemporary artist and media artist from Korea. It is the first time a Korean artist has been selected as a recipient. Kim is particularly known for pioneering new approaches by integrating contemporary art with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual reality (VR). The 'Delivery Dancer' series featured in the Times Square video is a video artwork inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, depicting interactions between female riders racing through a futuristic Seoul and AI.
