Hwangsan to Host the National Triathlon and Presidential Cup National Park Golf Tournament
The 64th Gyeongsangnam-do Residents Sports Festival will be held in Jinju for four days from May 2 to May 5, 2025.
This annual sports festival is a large-scale athletic event in which about 20,000 athletes from 18 cities and counties in Gyeongsangnam-do participate. This year’s festival will feature a total of 36 events, including 31 official disciplines and 5 demonstration events (triathlon, billiards, squash, water ski and wake sports, and equestrian).
Yangsan City will send a delegation of 713 athletes to compete in 32 events at this year’s festival. At the 63rd festival last year, the Yangsan City team achieved outstanding results in park golf, tennis, volleyball, baseball, and bowling, and expectations are high that they will continue this success at the upcoming event.
Following this, the 28th Gyeongsangnam-do Disabled Residents Sports Festival will take place over two days, May 8 and 9. Yangsan City will participate with a delegation of 390 athletes in 19 events, aiming to showcase excellence in sports for people with disabilities. Last year, the Yangsan City team won medals in individual events such as weightlifting, table tennis, swimming, baduk, and park golf, demonstrating remarkable performances.
In addition, the city is preparing to host several competitions to promote local sports and develop its stay-type tourism industry. In particular, nationwide competitions will be held in May at Hwangsan Park, a blue ocean for Yangsan.
From May 17 to 18, the 6th Yangsan Mayor’s Cup Hwangsan National Triathlon will be held, and from May 23 to 24, the 2nd Presidential Cup National Park Golf Tournament will take place, with representative athletes from cities and provinces across the country participating. These events are expected to have a positive impact not only on sports promotion but also on revitalizing the local economy.
An official from Yangsan City stated, "Participating in the Residents Sports Festival and the Disabled Residents Sports Festival will provide an opportunity for our athletes to demonstrate the sports skills they have accumulated so far," adding, "We will also make thorough preparations for the large-scale competitions centered around Hwangsan Park to further enhance our reputation as a sports city."
