A man in his 30s who wielded a weapon at a mart in Mia-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, resulting in the death of a passerby, tested negative in a drug screening.
According to the Gangbuk Police Station in Seoul, a preliminary drug test conducted on April 25 for Mr. A yielded a negative result. Currently, the police have requested a detailed analysis of Mr. A's hair and urine samples from the National Forensic Service. Forensic analysis of Mr. A's mobile phone is also planned.
A police official stated, "We are continuing the investigation to determine the specific motive for the crime."
On April 22 at approximately 6:20 p.m., Mr. A was apprehended at the scene after stabbing an employee and a passerby, both of whom he did not know, with a weapon inside a mart near Mia Station in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.
Mr. A, who was wearing a hospital gown from a nearby hospital at the time, drank alcohol found inside the mart just before the attack and used a knife taken from its packaging on display to commit the crime. After the incident, Mr. A hid the weapon among stacks of snacks on a store shelf, moved to a nearby alley, smoked a cigarette, and called 112 to report the incident, according to the investigation.
