The Waterworks Headquarters has implemented measures such as double-door entry systems, installation of fine insect screens, and improvements to purification process operations to fundamentally block the inflow of small organisms, including larvae. As a result, there have been no incidents involving larvae to date.
Last year, fine filtration screens were installed at all inlets of the final reservoirs at the purification plants, establishing a foundation to preemptively block the inflow of foreign substances.
In addition, in March, before the sharp increase in Chironomidae larvae, a monitoring system was established to continuously check for the presence of larvae at each stage of the purification process. A specialized epidemiological investigation team was also formed to respond systematically.
Furthermore, the headquarters plans to further strengthen hygiene management throughout the entire purification process by enhancing larvae monitoring at each stage and shortening the backwashing cycle of filter beds.
Park Dohyun, Director of the Daejeon Waterworks Headquarters, stated, "The hygiene and safety of tap water are top priorities that cannot be compromised under any circumstances," and added, "We will continue to do our utmost to supply clean tap water free from concerns about larvae."
