The Youth Hope Didimdol Savings Account is a program designed to help young people build assets and plan for a stable future in the region. Under this program, Jeonnam Province and participating youth jointly open an account and make matching deposits.
If a participant diligently deposits 100,000 won each month for three years, the province and local cities and counties will provide matching support funds. At maturity, participants can receive up to 7.2 million won (twice the principal) plus interest.
Eligibility is limited to young people born between 1980 and 2007 who are registered residents of Jeonnam Province and have worked as an employee or business owner for at least three months (90 days) within the past six months. In addition, applicants must have a household income not exceeding 120% of the median income (approximately 2.87 million won for a single-person household).
Applications can be submitted by visiting the local Eup, Myeon, or Dong administrative welfare center, or by registered mail. Further details are available on the websites of Jeonnam Province and each city or county.
Jeonnam Province launched this program in 2017 to support youth independence. To date, a total of 3,770 people have received maturity benefits, with cumulative payments amounting to approximately 27.5 billion won. The program is recognized as having significantly helped young people address real economic challenges such as securing housing, preparing for business startups, and repaying student loans.
Kim Myungshin, Director of the Population and Youth Policy Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, "I hope the Youth Hope Didimdol Savings Account will help ease the financial difficulties faced by young people taking their first steps into society and contribute to establishing a stable foundation for independence." Kim added, "We will continue to develop policies that young people can truly feel, so that these efforts lead to a real improvement in quality of life."
