Smart Crosswalks to Be Installed at 28 Intersections and School Zones in Yeongjong and Cheongna, Incheon
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced on April 22 that it plans to install smart crosswalks at 28 locations, including intersections in Yeongjong and Cheongna International Cities, by the first half of this year. By region, 13 locations are in Yeongjong and 15 are in Cheongna, with a total budget of approximately 300 million won allocated for the project.
Smart crosswalks are traffic safety auxiliary devices that enhance pedestrian safety using advanced information and communication technology (ICT). They are primarily installed at accident-prone locations and areas with high pedestrian density.
The system includes LED pedestrian signals embedded in the crosswalk surface, a voice guidance system, a red remaining time indicator on the signal that displays the remaining time using numbers and symbols, and an automatic extension system that provides an additional 5 to 10 seconds of crossing time if a pedestrian is unable to complete crossing.
