The purpose was to identify and analyze the tariff-related difficulties faced by export companies in the Busan region and to establish a joint response system with relevant organizations. More than 30 participants attended, including Chairman Yang Jaesaeng, representatives from Busan Metropolitan City, the Korea Customs Service, the Korea International Trade Association, and officials from local export companies to the US.
The meeting focused on discussing the tariff burdens and practical difficulties experienced by local companies, especially in light of the recent US government’s reciprocal tariff measures targeting major domestic industries such as steel and automobiles. Participating companies shared specific cases of damages, including weakened export competitiveness due to tariff increases, customs clearance delays, and rising costs, and conveyed the challenges faced on the ground.
In response, relevant organizations such as Busan Metropolitan City and the Korea Customs Service explained trends in customs negotiations, government policies to support exports and imports, and measures to support entry into new markets. They also actively listened to the companies’ suggestions and sought practical support measures.
The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry plans to continuously consult with the government and related ministries by conveying the difficulties and suggestions collected from companies at this meeting, aiming to achieve policy improvements and institutional support.
In addition, the chamber intends to actively utilize the existing 'Busan Region FTA Trade Promotion Center Council' to further strengthen cooperation with export and import-related organizations and to continuously enhance its capacity to respond to tariffs by regularly collecting companies’ difficulties.
Chairman Yang Jaesaeng emphasized, "Due to the Trump administration’s tariff measures, export industries that support our economy are now facing a crisis of uncertainty. The local business community, regional companies, and relevant organizations will establish a close joint response system and do our utmost to provide practical support to resolve companies’ difficulties and strengthen export competitiveness."
