Gijang County in Busan will host the 26th Gijang Senior Citizens Festival at the Gijang Gymnasium on April 23, organized by the Gijang Saemaeul Association (President Park Yongju).
This event is designed to express respect and gratitude to the seniors who have played a pivotal role in building the 'Happy City of Gijang.' It serves as a festival to wish for the health and happiness of seniors and to foster intergenerational connection and understanding.
This year, in particular, marks the 30th anniversary of the county’s reinstatement, and the festival will be held under the slogan "Gijang Leaping Forward Beyond 30 Years." It aims to commemorate the remarkable growth achieved together with residents and to instill a sense of pride in the people of Gijang.
On the day of the event, a cultural performance by seniors from the Senior Welfare Center, as part of a talent donation, will begin at 10:30 a.m. as a pre-event. This will be followed by the Silver Song Festival, a saxophone performance by Choi Kwangsik, and congratulatory performances by Mistrot Hyunhee and others.
The first part of the ceremony, which begins at 12:30 p.m., will feature an opening declaration and an awards ceremony to honor those who have contributed to promoting respect for the elderly and filial piety. The second part will include congratulatory performances by Audrey Girls, Lim Hyungyu (fusion janggu), Ssabi (Psy imitation), Hwang Minwoo & Hwang Minho, as well as a line dance performance by the Gijang County branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association, all aimed at creating a festive atmosphere for the seniors.
Additionally, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., members of the Saemaeul Women’s Association will serve warm meals to seniors. Various organizations and groups will also offer a range of side events, including free health check-ups for seniors, senior employment counseling, free hair services, senior makeup, and complimentary tea services.
Furthermore, wristbands will be distributed as admission tickets for seniors, with instructions to wear them until the end of the event to ensure smooth and safe proceedings. The wristbands can also be used to exchange for commemorative gifts, snack vouchers, and raffle tickets.
