During the meeting, the participants exchanged opinions on the stable operation of the seasonal worker program and discussed practical and sustainable exchange measures for the future. Since signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the dispatch of seasonal workers in January last year, Damyang County and Laos have seen 107 Laotian workers enter and work in Damyang to date. This is the largest number of workers supplied among the countries with which Damyang County has signed such agreements since last year, playing a significant role in alleviating the local labor shortage in agriculture.
On the same day, the Laotian Ambassador to Korea and his delegation celebrated Laos’s largest holiday, the “Pi Mai (New Year) Festival,” together with Laotian workers in the region, offering words of encouragement and comfort. They also visited a farm in Wolsan-myeon employing Laotian workers, conversed with the workers, and inspected their accommodations and working conditions.
Governor Jeong Cheolwon emphasized, “We will do our utmost to improve working conditions and protect human rights, so that foreign seasonal workers coming to Damyang can complete their work safely and satisfactorily, and return home with good memories.”
