Carbon Neutrality Education for Future Generations Also Planned
The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office will operate "Climate Change Week" from April 21 to 25 in celebration of the 55th Earth Day (April 22).
This year's Climate Change Week aims to raise public awareness of the climate crisis and spread everyday practices to strengthen carbon neutrality and adaptation capabilities. In particular, the focus is on encouraging climate action participation among youth and future generations.
The official message of Climate Change Week is "Let's Take Climate Action! Let's Adapt in Daily Life!" It emphasizes practicing both carbon neutrality and adaptive behaviors in everyday life.
The Yeongsangang Environmental Office will hold a lights-off event for 10 minutes starting at 8 p.m. on the 22nd to promote energy saving and carbon emission reduction. On the 25th, employees will be encouraged to commute in eco-friendly ways such as walking or cycling, and the cafeteria will offer a low-carbon (vegetarian) menu and implement a "no leftover day."
In addition, in cooperation with environmental education institutions in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, carbon neutrality experiential education will be provided for preschoolers and elementary students. The Yeongsangang Office plans to enhance the climate sensitivity and practical capabilities of future generations through this program.
Director Kim Youngwoo said, "Small actions can lead to big changes," and added, "I hope this Climate Change Week will be an opportunity for environmental protection practices to become part of daily life."
