The Gwangyang Bay Area is a region with high demand for advanced industries such as secondary batteries, semiconductors, and functional materials. However, with approximately 98% of the 108 industrial complexes in the Jeonnam region already fully occupied, the establishment of new industrial complexes is urgently needed.
Accordingly, Jeollanam-do plans to create a national industrial complex spanning a total of 3.96 million square meters in Suncheon and Gwangyang, with an investment of 1.2 trillion KRW. The site will concentrate future core industries such as semiconductors, secondary batteries, and new materials, aiming to foster it as a hub for the advanced materials industry.
To this end, Jeollanam-do recently held an advisory meeting at the Eastern Regional Headquarters to discuss the direction of industrial complex development while establishing the basic plan and conducting a feasibility study. The meeting was attended by relevant organizations and experts, including the Industrial Complex Development Division of Jeollanam-do, Jeonnam Research Institute, Jeonnam Technopark, Jeonnam Development Corporation, Suncheon City, and Gwangyang City. They discussed ▲industrial complex development plans ▲infrastructure supply measures ▲demand and economic feasibility ▲strategies for fostering strategic industries and attracting anchor companies.
The strategies for fostering the materials industry, regional development linkage measures, demand and economic feasibility analysis, and anchor company attraction strategies derived from the advisory meeting will be actively reflected in the ongoing research service to secure the validity of the national industrial complex designation and enhance project execution.
The research service will be conducted over a total of nine months until June this year. According to the survey of demand for occupancy, 117 companies in the advanced materials sector have expressed their intention to move in if the national industrial complex is established.
Through this research, Jeollanam-do plans to establish concrete industrial complex development strategies and action plans, and will continue efforts to have the project reflected in national plans and presidential campaign pledges.
