On the 15th, as the Democratic Party of Korea proceeded with the registration of preliminary candidates for the presidential election, Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province and former Governor Kim Kyung-soo of South Gyeongsang Province announced their candidacies. Governor Kim emphasized the economy, while former Governor Kim highlighted the 'Light Coalition' of forces protecting the constitution.
On the afternoon of the 15th, Governor Kim visited the Democratic Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and submitted his preliminary candidate registration documents. Immediately after registering, he told reporters, "It is not 'Eodaemyeong' (Anyway, the president is Lee Jae-myung), but 'Eodaeguk' (Anyway, the president is chosen by the people)," adding, "I will focus solely on the people."
Governor Kim stated, "I will be a confident and honest economic expert," emphasizing, "The time for the economy does not wait for politics." He added, "There is talk of a supplementary budget of 12 trillion won now, but considering the difficult economy and people's livelihoods, I earnestly request here that the political circles and government handle a supplementary budget of at least 30 to 50 trillion won."
Former Governor Kim Kyung-soo of South Gyeongsang Province also completed his preliminary candidate registration on the morning of the same day. After registering, he told reporters, "This primary must be an overwhelming regime change to completely overcome martial law and rebellion," adding, "Only through the 'Light Coalition' where all constitutional protection forces who defended the constitution through this impeachment unite can the democratic government that will come to power through the presidential election succeed."
Regarding the possibility of cooperation with the People Power Party, former Governor Kim, who mentioned the 'Light Coalition,' said, "The priority now is for the People Power Party to break ties with the rebellion forces," adding, "As a party labeled as Yoon Seok-yeol's holding party and cohabiting with rebellion forces, it is impossible to participate in the Light Coalition."
