Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province held the 106th Heungbu Manse Movement Commemoration Ceremony and the 29th 4.13 Heungbu Manse Festival at Heungbu Manse Park in Buk-myeon on the 13th.

View original imageThe ceremony, hosted by the Heungbu Independence Spirit Preservation Committee (Chairman Park Youngcheol) and organized by the Buk-myeon Youth Association (President Jeon Simon), was prepared to remember and carry on the spirit of the patriotic independence movement of the martyrs who resisted Japanese colonial rule on Heungbu Market Day in Buk-myeon on April 13, 1919.
More than 300 people attended the event, including County Governor Son Byeongbok, County Council Chairperson Kim Jeonghee, Kim Hyeonji, Head of Veterans Affairs at the Southern Gyeongbuk Veterans Office, as well as leaders of various organizations and local residents, reflecting on the significance of the occasion.
The event began with a Korean traditional music performance by the Uljin Arirang Folk Song Team, followed by the commemorative ceremony, offering of flowers and incense, reading of the Declaration of Independence and three cheers for independence, and a reenactment march condemning Japanese atrocities and recreating the Manse Movement in the streets.
Park Youngcheol, Chairman of the Heungbu Independence Spirit Preservation Committee, said, "I hope that through this ceremony, our descendants will deeply remember and honor the noble sacrifices and patriotic spirit of our ancestors who fought for the independence of our nation under Japanese oppression and persecution."
County Governor Son Byeongbok stated, "Through the historic 4.13 Heungbu Manse Movement, we will honor the noble spirit of independence of our patriotic ancestors and ensure that their legacy is passed on to future generations, so that those who contributed to our independence are respected and their pride is preserved. I will do my best to serve the county with this in mind."
