They were selected through a county contest last March. Their bright smiling faces, capes, and wings represent change and leap forward, while the image of them holding hands symbolizes harmony and cooperation.
At the appointment ceremony, County Governor Kim Hanjong said, "This year, Jangseong will host major events such as the Jeonnam Sports Festival, the Jeonnam Para Games, and the 'Visit Jangseong Year.' I hope these two characters will help widely promote the brand value of Jangseong."
According to the county, 'Seongjangi' and 'Jangseongi' work in the planning office of the county government, and their 'salary' is paid in 'the love and attention of the residents.' After work, they are said to rest in the press room.
