Buk-gu Gwangju to Visit Vulnerable Seniors for Medication Management
Visiting Medication Management Service
for Seniors with Chronic Diseases
Buk-gu, Gwangju is launching a "Visiting Medication Management Service" targeting seniors at high risk of medication misuse. On the morning of the 14th, Buk-gu announced that it had signed a business agreement with the Buk-gu Pharmaceutical Association and would promote the "Polypharmacy Management Project."
This project targets elderly medical benefit recipients who take multiple medications simultaneously due to chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Since it is common for them to take more than 15 types of medication, there are significant concerns about overlapping drug effects and side effects.
According to the agreement, pharmacists from the Buk-gu Pharmaceutical Association will directly visit the homes of the target group to check their medication status, collect expired drugs, and provide customized medication consultations, including recommending prescription adjustments if necessary.
Through this initiative, Buk-gu plans to reduce drug side effects among vulnerable groups and simultaneously strengthen the foundation of the local integrated care service.
Mayor Moon In said, "This is an essential service for seniors with complex medication regimens," adding, "We will continue to expand the integrated care project to reduce medical blind spots."
