Fake vomit spread and money demanded... Taxi driver extorted 150 million won sent to prosecution
A taxi driver who extorted money by spreading fake vomit inside his taxi while a drunken passenger was asleep has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the 10th, the Jongam Police Station in Seoul announced that they had arrested and sent taxi driver A to prosecution on charges of habitual extortion.
A is accused of spreading fake vomit, pre-made from porridge, cola, coffee, etc., inside the taxi while a heavily intoxicated passenger was asleep and extorting settlement money.
A selected drunken passengers, stopped the vehicle in a secluded area, and committed the crime by spreading fake vomit on his own face and inside the vehicle. He also demanded settlement money from passengers, claiming he was assaulted while driving.
A received settlement money ranging from 300,000 to 6,000,000 won under the pretexts of criminal settlement fees, car wash costs, and purchasing broken glasses. According to the police’s analysis of deposit accounts and card records, it is estimated that A extorted about 150 million won in cash from around 160 people.
A’s crime was uncovered recently during the investigation of a passenger accused of assaulting a driver. When the passenger insisted that he never vomits even when heavily intoxicated, the police requested the National Forensic Service to analyze the vomit. The analysis revealed that the vomit was fake.
