The 3rd Korea Sports Council National Jangsa Ssireum Championship Held in Boseong

Boseong County, Jeollanam-do announced on the 10th that the '3rd Korea Sports Council President's National Ssireum Championship' will be held at the Boseong Dahyang Gymnasium for seven days from the 11th to the 17th.
This tournament is hosted by the Korea Ssireum Association and organized by the Boseong County Sports Council and the Boseong County Ssireum Association. A total of 933 athletes from elementary to university divisions, including the women's division, will compete in both individual and team events.
The individual competition will be held in seven weight classes: Gyeongjang, Sojang, Cheongjang, Yongjang, Yongsa, Yeoksa, and Jangsa. Matches from the preliminaries to the quarterfinals will be single elimination, while the semifinals and finals will follow a best-of-three format. All matches will be conducted in a tournament style, promising thrilling and intense competitions.
The opening ceremony will take place at 1:55 PM on the 14th. Lee Junhee, president of the Korea Ssireum Association and known as the "Gentleman of the Sand" during his active career, will deliver the opening address, and Yoo Seungmin, Olympic gold medalist in table tennis and president of the Korea Sports Council, will give a congratulatory speech.
The semifinals and finals of the university, middle, and high school team events will be broadcast live on the 'MBC SPORTS+' channel. Fans can also watch the matches in real time on the YouTube channels 'Korea Ssireum Association The Ssireum LIVE' and 'Satba TV', raising expectations among ssireum enthusiasts.
Kim Cheolwoo, the county governor, said, "I am delighted that we can once again feel the passionate spirit of the traditional sport of ssireum in Boseong County," and added, "We will successfully host this tournament to enhance the diversity and quality of our regional sports culture."
Meanwhile, Boseong County has hosted the 'Korea Sports Council President's National Ssireum Championship' for three consecutive years, leading the way in preserving and developing traditional folk sports. In particular, by expanding its sports infrastructure and ensuring stable tournament operations, Boseong is solidifying its status as a prominent ssireum hub city.
