Gyeryong City National Sports Center to Open in October... 97% Completion Rate
Equipped with a multipurpose gymnasium, health management room, aerobics room, and more on two above-ground floors
Gyeryong City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 11th that the construction of the National Sports Center, which is being promoted to improve the health of local residents and revitalize recreational sports, is progressing smoothly with a 97% completion rate.
The National Sports Center is a large-scale sports infrastructure project with a total budget of 19 billion KRW (3.2 billion KRW from the national government, 500 million KRW from the provincial government, and 15.3 billion KRW from the city government). It was initiated to support citizens' healthy leisure activities and improve their quality of life.
The sports center is being built at 1-2 Dugae-ri, Duma-myeon, with two floors above ground and a total floor area of 2,988 square meters. Main facilities will include a multipurpose gymnasium, health management room, aerobics room, table tennis hall, and various other exercise spaces.
In particular, a barrier-free design has been applied to enhance accessibility for all age groups, from children to the elderly. The center is being equipped with the latest sports equipment and advanced ventilation systems to create a pleasant exercise environment as construction nears completion.
The city plans to complete interior work and sports equipment installation by August, conduct a trial operation in September, and officially open the center in October.
The sports center will be an open facility accessible to all citizens, offering a variety of programs such as aerobics and fitness, as well as serving as a space for recreational sports clubs.
Mayor Lee Eungwoo said, "The completion of the National Sports Center will become a new milestone for sports and welfare in Gyeryong City," adding, "We will continue to focus our administrative efforts on expanding various sports facilities so that all citizens can enjoy a healthy and prosperous life."
Meanwhile, Gyeryong City aims to use this sports center as a starting point to resolve regional disparities in access to public facilities and to set an exemplary case for sustainable sports and welfare policies. The city also plans to continue promoting various resident-tailored health projects in the future.
