Governor Kang Jinwon: "Balancing Jobs and Housing"
Gangjin County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jinwon) has launched an all-out effort to overcome the crisis of local extinction.
According to the county on the 10th, a total of 44.6 billion KRW, including national and provincial funds, will be invested over the next four years in 15 key projects focused on expanding the resident population, attracting young people, and improving settlement conditions.
In particular, in addition to 29.6 billion KRW in national funding, an additional 15 billion KRW has been secured from the Jeollanam-do metropolitan fund, giving further momentum to the initiative. Based on this budget, the county is carrying out various projects closely related to daily life, such as expanding the Dasan Integrity Training Center dormitory, remodeling vacant houses, and creating new residential spaces.
Among these, the most notable project is the plan to build the "Ten Thousand Won House" for young people and newlyweds. This groundbreaking policy aims to significantly reduce housing costs and help young people settle stably in the region, and is expected to receive strong support from the target demographic.
Additionally, through the remodeling of vacant houses, the county has attracted 60 households and over 150 new residents so far, injecting new vitality into the local community. Furthermore, by expanding the Dasan Integrity Training Center dormitory, which inherits Dasan's spirit of integrity and love for the people, the county aims to strengthen its capacity to accommodate external trainees and further increase the inflow of residents in connection with tourism.
The county recently held a meeting with relevant departments to discuss new ideas for the 2026 extinction response fund investment projects and to review the progress of ongoing projects, thereby enhancing execution capabilities.
Governor Kang Jinwon stated, "We will turn the crisis of local extinction into an opportunity and transform Gangjin into a young and vibrant city," adding, "We will do our best to make Gangjin a city where young people and families want to stay, and where jobs and housing are well-balanced."
The county plans to continue establishing itself as a leading model for responding to the crisis of local extinction by focusing on effective policies that residents can truly feel.
