Wando Coast Guard Charges Man in His 40s for Illegal Wastewater Discharge into Sea
Wando Maritime Police Station announced on the 9th that they have booked Captain A (44) on charges of illegally discharging wastewater into the waters of Wando Port.
Captain A is suspected of having used a submersible pump to discharge approximately 105 liters of wastewater from his 4-ton fishing boat into the sea near the New Port of Wando Port at around 1 a.m. on the 5th.

View original imageThe maritime police stated that they immediately responded to a report of "oil floating on the water," identified the vessel through analysis of nearby CCTV footage, and apprehended Captain A.
A representative of the maritime police emphasized, "The area around the New Port of Wando Port is densely populated with over 40 sensitive resources, including village fishery facilities, within a 2.5 km radius. Protecting the marine environment here is especially important. This incident constitutes a serious marine pollution crime that poses a direct threat to the fishing ecosystem and the livelihoods of local residents."
Meanwhile, unauthorized discharge of pollutants such as waste oil or fuel into the sea can result in imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to 50 million won under the Marine Environment Management Act.
