The awards recognize institutions and companies that have demonstrated outstanding performance based on excellent management strategies and vision.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun, who won the award in the ‘Leadership Management’ category last year, has been honored with the Grand Prize again this year in the ‘Regional Economic Development Management’ category, achieving the distinction for two consecutive years.
Mayor Kim was selected as this year’s recipient in recognition of his visible achievements such as active corporate attraction, creating a business-friendly environment, improving various regulations, and attracting advanced industries.
From the start of his term, Mayor Kim set “Uijeongbu, a city of abundant jobs and enterprises” as a core goal. He established a dedicated corporate attraction organization and focused administrative capabilities through the operation of working groups and regular strategic meetings. He also made continuous efforts by analyzing local conditions and identifying available sites for corporate investment.
In particular, he continuously pushed for proposals to central government ministries and amendments to laws, leading to various regulatory relaxations such as ▲changes to the comprehensive development plan for returned land, ▲changes to the basic management plan for Yonghyeon Industrial Complex, ▲easing of height restrictions in Yonghyeon Industrial Complex, and ▲revision of guidelines for lifting development restriction zones. Additionally, he conducted on-site, proactive sales activities including corporate attraction briefings and conferences.
Through these efforts, agreements were successfully made for ▲investment in a cloud data center, ▲relocation and attraction of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) Northern Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters, ▲business cooperation with bio-innovation company BioGansolution Co., Ltd., ▲an investment agreement worth approximately 50 billion KRW with Uijeongbu Agricultural Cooperative, and ▲an investment attraction agreement with CJ Bio Co., Ltd. for fostering advanced industries.
Furthermore, to strengthen the competitiveness of Yonghyeon Industrial Complex, the only industrial complex in the region, and transform it into a future-oriented advanced industrial complex, the Yonghyeon Industrial Complex structural advancement project was promoted, revitalizing the aging industrial complex.
Moreover, Mayor Kim is realizing a future vision to leap forward as a sustainable, economically self-sufficient city by promoting the designation of an economic free zone utilizing the returned land area, developing the Uijeongbu station area, and creating a K-Culture video filming specialized complex.
