"Daily Regret and Remorse"... Younger Brother Who Wielded a Weapon Against Older Brother Appeals for Leniency in Appellate Court
After Lending 30 Million Won and Not Being Repaid
Sent Rotten Fruit When Asked to Send Some Fruit
A man in his 60s who wielded a weapon against his older brother for ignoring him and not repaying money pleaded for leniency at the appellate trial.
At the first hearing on the attempted murder charge against Mr. A (65), held on the 2nd at the Criminal Division 1 of the Chuncheon Branch of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judge Lee Eun-hye), Mr. A said, "I committed a grave mistake and I reflect and regret it every single day."
Mr. A's lawyer argued, "The defendant has worked various odd jobs since childhood to support his siblings' education and livelihood. Despite living a life of sacrifice, he could not endure the provocation to 'go ahead and stab me' and committed the crime under the influence of alcohol, with no actual intent to kill."
On the other hand, the prosecution requested the court to dismiss Mr. A's appeal, citing the victim's claims of mental and physical suffering.
In the past, Mr. A lent 30 million won to his older brother, Mr. B (73), but even after a long time and despite Mr. B's improved financial situation, he showed no intention to repay the money. Furthermore, Mr. B's actions, such as sending rotten fruit that Mr. A could not eat when asked for agricultural products, worsened their relationship.

On the day of the incident, Mr. A contacted Mr. B to demand repayment, but Mr. B responded, "Come and kill me." Later that afternoon, while drinking together at Mr. B's home in Hongcheon, Mr. A wielded a weapon and caused injury. The first trial at Chuncheon District Court sentenced him to six years in prison, citing the severity of the injury, its location, and the gravity of the crime. The appellate sentencing hearing is scheduled for the 14th of next month.
