Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, Major Service Improvements Planned for 'Pyeonghwanuri Camping Site' After One Year of Direct Management
The ‘Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site,’ the camping site closest to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), is undergoing a major transformation as it marks the first anniversary of direct management since April last year.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization announced on the 1st that it will enhance facilities and services and expand the attraction of travelers, including foreigners, to celebrate the first anniversary of direct management of Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site.
First, to improve convenience for camping customers, the organization introduced an ordering service. Starting in April this year, the ‘Room Order Service’ was launched, allowing guests in all 44 caravan and glamping rooms to easily order and pay for various rental items and services such as breakfast, firewood, and extra blankets directly.
Additionally, to increase customer satisfaction, discount services linked to nearby tourist attractions have been strengthened. Campers using Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site can enjoy up to 33% discounts at nearby attractions such as Imjingak Peace Gondola, First Garden, Museum Hey, Sanmeoru Farm, and DMZ Kaesong Ginseng Experience.
Most services are equipped with real-time complaint response functions, greatly improving on-site response efficiency, and also support various languages and large font mode for foreigners and the elderly.
New state-of-the-art facilities are also being introduced at the camping site. To provide a more comfortable environment for family visitors and actively respond to climate changes, nine new tarps made of high-strength Oxford fabric with enhanced waterproof, flame-retardant, and windproof functions will be installed in shelters and the Campnic Lounge.
In particular, Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site, located near Imjingak adjacent to North Korea, is highly attractive to foreigners and has been promoting projects to ‘revitalize DMZ tourism’ since the beginning of the year. After signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with major domestic inbound travel agencies on February 18, over 1,500 foreign tourists completed advance reservations for camping site accommodations within one month. This accounts for 75% of this year’s target of 2,000 visitors.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization expects that, following this trend, it will be possible to attract between 3,000 and a maximum of 4,000 visitors. Last year, about 1,200 foreign tourists visited Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has been seeking continuous development plans for Pyeonghwa Nuri Camping Site since the transition to direct management, including newly introducing a ‘DMZ Camping Travel Package’ linking DMZ tourist sites and camping sites to provide ‘more equitable travel opportunities’ for socially vulnerable groups and to revitalize stay-type tourism and the local economy in northern Gyeonggi Province.
