Went to Watch Baseball, Met with Disaster... Woman in Her 20s Dies After Being Hit by Falling Structure at NC Park
A spectator who was seriously injured after being struck by a fallen structure at a professional baseball stadium has died while receiving treatment.
According to the Masan Dongbu Police Station, at around 5:20 p.m. on the 29th, during a professional baseball game, a structure installed on the outer wall near the third base concession stand at Changwon NC Park in Masanhoewon-gu, Changwon, fell to the ground.
As a result of this accident, three women who were standing in line in front of the concession stand were injured.
Among them, a woman in her 20s, identified as Ms. A, who was struck on the head, was rushed to the emergency room and underwent emergency surgery before being transferred to the intensive care unit, but ultimately passed away on the morning of the 31st.
Another injured person, a teenager identified as Ms. B, was found to be Ms. A's biological sister and is currently receiving treatment for a fractured collarbone.
The fallen structure was reported to be a "louver," an aluminum exterior finishing material measuring 2.6 meters in length and 40 centimeters in width.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) canceled the scheduled game between the NC Dinos and the LG Twins on the 30th immediately after the accident and began a safety inspection of the stadium.
Additionally, the three-game series between NC and SSG Landers, scheduled to be held at this venue from April 1 to 3, will be played without spectators.
Previously, NC released an official statement on the day after the accident, the 30th, saying, "We wish a speedy recovery to those who were unfortunately injured. The club is doing its utmost to take all necessary measures," and added, "To prevent a recurrence of such accidents, we will work with relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the cause and establish and rigorously implement countermeasures."
