Gwangju Seo-gu Launches 'Dream-Shining Study Room Project'
Applications Accepted Until the 30th of Next Month
Aiming to Eradicate Child Housing Poverty
Seo-gu District of Gwangju (District Mayor Kim Ikang) is launching a support project for children living in poor residential environments, becoming the first among the five autonomous districts to do so.
Seo-gu announced on the 28th that it has enacted the 'Ordinance for Supporting the Eradication of Child Housing Poverty in Seo-gu', the first of its kind in Gwangju, and based on this, will promote the 'Dream-Shining Study Room Project' for households experiencing child housing poverty.
The project targets households that include children under the age of 18, who have been residing in Seo-gu for at least one month as of the application date, and are living in semi-basements, rooftop rooms, or in residences below the minimum housing area (43㎡ for a family of four), or in non-residential spaces.
Seo-gu plans to provide financial support for improving the living environment of these households, such as wallpapering, flooring, and storage organization, as well as for purchasing household goods for child welfare and stability.
Additionally, if these households move, support will be provided for monthly rental fees (interest), moving expenses, and brokerage fees. Applications for support are being accepted at local administrative welfare centers until the 30th of next month, and further details can be obtained by contacting the Care Policy Division at Seo-gu District Office.
Park Yonggeum, Head of the Care Policy Division, stated, “We launched this project in the hope that children growing up in Seo-gu will have the right to grow up in a pleasant residential environment and have their own ‘study room’ to nurture their dreams,” and added, “We hope for active interest and applications from eligible households and the community.”
