Controversy Over Post Claiming "Impeachment Opposition Decreased" After Wildfire Deaths News
While wildfires simultaneously broke out across the country, causing difficulties in firefighting efforts and resulting in fatalities, on the 26th, a social networking service (SNS) user posted a message stating, "The number of people opposing impeachment has decreased," which drew criticism from netizens.
According to reports, a user of the social networking service 'X (formerly Twitter)' referenced articles about wildfire fatalities in the Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk regions and wrote posts such as, "15 fewer people opposing impeachment," and "Three more impeachment opponents have died in the meantime."
Regarding areas declared special disaster zones due to severe wildfire damage, the user wrote, "They're making a fuss over nothing," and about concerns over wildfire damage to Andong Hahoe Village, "It doesn't matter if a local heritage site supporting rebellion burns down."
The user also wrote, "If we use the power of wildfires, can we make the abnormal Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam regions, which are shouting against impeachment, repent and return to normal?"
Netizens who saw these posts responded with critical comments such as, "People's lives are at stake and the country is burning, is political ideology more important than life?", "No democratic citizen would use human casualties in this way," and "This is defamation of the deceased."
