U.S. President Donald Trump is openly pursuing the incorporation of Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, into the United States, and Vice President J.D. Vance will visit Greenland on the 28th.
Vice President Vance announced this on the 25th (local time) through a post and video on X (formerly Twitter).
Vance shared the plan for the visit to Greenland by his wife Usha and the U.S. delegation, saying, "There is a lot of excitement surrounding Usha's visit," and added, "I don't want her to have all the fun alone. I will accompany her."
He also revealed plans to visit the U.S. military space base located in Greenland, stating, "I will check on what is happening regarding Greenland's security."
He explained, "Many countries have threatened to use Greenland's territory and waterways to threaten the people of the United States, Canada, and Greenland," and added, "We want to reinforce the security of the people of Greenland because protecting global security is important."
He continued, "Unfortunately, the leaders of the United States and Denmark have ignored Greenland for too long," and said, "That is not good for Greenland or the world, and we believe we can steer the situation in a different direction."
Earlier, the White House announced on the 23rd that Mrs. Usha Vance would visit Greenland on the 27th to tour historical sites and attend a dog sled race.
President Trump referred to this visit the day before, saying, "It is out of friendship," and mentioned that the visit was by invitation. He also said, "I think Greenland will probably be part of America's future."
However, M?te Egede, the Prime Minister of Greenland, denied the invitation, stating, "The Greenland government has never sent any invitation, whether official or private, to the United States."
Denmark's Greenland dismissed President Trump's claims. Prime Minister M?te Egede announced via social media that the Greenland government has never sent any invitation.
